

Frances J. Nagorsky, age 91, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at The Villas of Hollybrook. Fran was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on July 4, 1935, the youngest daughter of Lewis and Phoebe (Johnson) Berkley. She married Maurice Nagorsky in Springfield, Illinois on October 28, 1959, and he preceded her in death January 1, 2023. Her parents and her three sisters; Millie, Joyce and Laura also preceded her in death.
Surviving are her three daughters: Mindy (Arthur) Carlson of Chicago, Sheila Nagorsky of Tel Aviv, Israel and Lynn (Brendan) Duffy of Springfield, five grandchildren: Scott and Abby Carlson and Drew, Phoebe and Jonah (Chloe) Duffy as well as nieces and nephews.
Frances retired from the Illinois Education Association Credit Union in Springfield but started her career as a Physical Education teacher at Washington middle school. She was a devoted and active member of Temple Israel for 65 years and enjoyed singing in the Temple choir. Frances was also a member of the Temple Israel Sisterhood, Hadassah, the Springfield Jewish Federation, and AAUW just to name a few. She was an avid Bridge and Mahjong player and enjoyed their Gourmet Club. Frances and Maurice enjoyed traveling, walking in the park and spending time with family and friends. Fran was loved by many and will be dearly missed; may her memory be a blessing.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, August 31, 2026, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Rabbi Barry Marks will officiate. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the Monument Ave. gate at 10:45 am to process to the graveside.
