

He was born April 12, 1924 in Hughsonville, NY. the son of Francis W. Sr. and Helen Stalter Phillips. He was preceded in death by a son, James E. Phillips,Sr., and sisters, Gloria Morse, Ruth Van Buren and Helen Palazzo. He married Maxine Kern Feb. 22,1946.
He was a member of Salisbury Baptist Church and Calvary Temple. He was a veteran of World War II serving on the U.S.S. Massachusetts Battleship from 1942 to 1945 as a 1st Gunners Mate and Minesweeper crew member. He served tours of duty on over 13 islands and received 13 Battle Stars.
He was a self employed plumber for 55 years. He was a devoted husband, father gramps and great gramps.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; Daughter, Linda S. Phillips; sons, Francis W. Phillips III and William A. Phillips; granddaughter, Valeria A. Rich(husband, Sean); grandsons Philip L. Brammer(wife,Lisa), Russell R. Brammer(wife, Jennifer), James E. Phillips Jr. and Jason E. Phillips; great grandchildren Raelyn B. Brammer, Amanda Rich, Braden and Briar Rich, Sheawna and Paige Phillips; sisters, Shirley Joyce, Katherine Hartnett and his dog pal, Minnie.
The family is being served by Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel where friends may call Friday Oct. 3,2008 from 11:00AM until the time of services there at 1:00 pm with Rev. Paul Rose officiating. Interment will be in Salisbury Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military rites.
