

Francis B. Von De Bur, 81, of Springfield, died at 3:23 a.m. on Saturday, December 09, 2006 at Regency Nursing Care. He was born on April 16, 1925 in Springfield, the son of John and Anne M. Alewelt Von De Bur. He married Mary Margaret Rock on October 28, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Springfield; she preceded him in death in 2001. He graduated from Cathedral Boys Catholic High School and attended Springfield Junior College. He was a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran and for thirty-six years served as a U.S. Postal Service Mail Carrier from 1950 until his retirement in 1986. Francis was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #364. He was a member of the Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home Bowling Team and Knights of Columbus Golf League for many years. He was a “Mr. Fix It” and “Jack of All Trades”. He was a skilled carpenter, building two homes for his family. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother: John E. Von De Bur. He is survived by eight sons: Larry (wife, Jan) Von De Bur of Colorado Springs, CO, Tom (wife, Joellyn) Von De Bur of Springfield, Joe (wife, Ann) Von De Bur of Sherman, Jim (wife, Linda) Von De Bur of San Jose, CA, Mark (wife, Debbie) of Pleasant Plains, John Von De Bur, Jerry Von De Bur and Tim (wife, Natalie) Von De Bur all of Springfield; three daughters: Sandy (husband, Rocky) Roberts, Patty (husband, Pete) Steward and Marie T. (husband, Russ Steil, III) Von De Bur all of Springfield; eighteen grandchildren: Evan, Heidi, Julia, Scott, Charlotte, Kyle, Casey, Nathan, Kate and Jake Von De Bur, Lindsay Eck, Sara and Melissa Roberts, Liz, John and Mary Steward, Lauren Barganz and Russ Steil IV; one great-grandchild: Kael Von De Bur; one sister: Mary Elizabeth (husband, Jim) Kates of Rochester and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a Prayer Service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Rev. Robert J. Jallas celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will perform Military Honors.
