

Frank A. Dower, 79 of Springfield, formerly of Zephyrhills, Florida, died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2005 at Capitol Care Center. He was born May 10, 1925 in Indianapolis, Indiana the son of Frank A. Sr. and Catherine P. Ryan Dower. He was a graduate of Cathedral Boys High School and Bradley University. He retired from Kraft Foods and later was self-employed in Florida. Frank was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving in WWII achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served with the B-17 Flying Fortress with the 351st Bombardment Group. He was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement, three Bronze Battle Stars, and one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster. He also received the European/Africa Mid-East Theatre Ribbon and the Presidential Unit Citation Medal. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Betty J. Smith and Mary B. Smith. He is survived by five sisters: Peggy (husband, Mike) Freeman, Irene Lavin, Ann (husband, James) Clancy, Catherine A. “Kay” Harrison, Helen L. Forgas all of Springfield, one brother: James V. Dower of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. Cremation will be accorded by Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors. The family of Frank A. Dower is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
