

Franklin F. Smith, 87, of Pawnee, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on September 17, 1927 in Buffalo, New York, the son of the late William and Francis (Smith) Smith. He married Muriel McKinley Smith on May 16, 1969 in Buffalo, New York and she preceded him in death on August 21, 2014.
He is survived by his daughter Melanie (Marc) Gregory of Pawnee, and his two grandsons: Tyler and Brandon Noehre. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He earned an Honorable Discharge in 1948. While in the service he earned the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He studied physical education at Utica College in New York earning a Bachelor's Degree. He was a Youth Director for the YMCA in New York for many years. He had most recently worked as a sales associate at Kohl’s Department Store. He enjoyed traveling, and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield, where a memorial service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 7 pm. Military rites will be accorded by the Interveteran’s Burial Detail of Sangamon County. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded.
