Fred was born in Springfield, April 13, 1935 the son of Frederick and Frieda (Ciesler) Ananias. He married Marilyn Schultz, August 14, 1955 and she preceded him in death, October 23, 1994. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lorraine Wiggins. On December 28, 2001, Fred married Arlene J. Emde; and she survives him.
Fred devoted his entire professional career to the United States Postal Service. He earned the position of Post Master in Emden, IL in 1972 and then was promoted to serve as Post Master in Winchester, IL. He retired in 1992 after 40 plus years of service. Following his retirement, Fred continued his mindset of service to others, assisting part time at Marine Bank of Springfield.
He was a member of the Kiwanis Club where he served as an officer. He also volunteered for the American Red Cross. Fred was a man of faith. He served on church council’s for several Lutheran churches over the years. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Springfield.
Fred had a great passion for fishing. He and Arlene enjoyed many winters away from the snow, enjoying the sunshine in Gulf Shores, AL. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with those he loved and cherished most, his family.
In addition to Arlene, Fred is survived by his son, Fred (wife Sally) Ananias, Jr. of Westfield, IN, his daughter, Lori (husband Tim) Bolger of Milwaukee, WI, and a step-son, Brion (wife Kate) Emde of Springfield. Also surviving are a half-sister, Janet (husband Gay) Rolofson of Decatur, IL, a half-brother, Henry Luka of Louisville, KY, five grandsons: Jason (wife Traci) Ananias of Carmel, IN, Jonathan (wife Jennifer) Ananias of Westfield, IN, Joe (wife Christina) Ananias of Nashville, TN, Andrew (wife Stephanie) Bolger of Greenfield, WI, and Matthew (fiancée Lexi Janigo) Bolger of Superior, WI and one, Step-grandson, Martin (wife Kristen) Emde of Shingle Springs, CA. Fred was blessed with six great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren who also survive him.
Family and friends are welcome to the Concordia Village Chapel 4101 W. Iles Ave., Springfield, IL, Saturday January 13, 2024 where visitation will be from 9:00 am until 10:45 am. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am there, with Chaplain Jeff Harter officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield.
