G. Marie Adkins

G. Marie Adkins, 90, of New Berlin, died at 8:40 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. Marie was born December 26, 1922 in New Berlin, the daughter of Charles and Susie Gorman Davenport. She married Oliver Adkins in 1951 in Springfield; he preceded her in death. Marie was a member of the New Berlin Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was employed at Memorial Medical Center for more than 30 years as a Patient Care Technician. She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, travelling, crocheting, and sewing. She was also preceded in death by her parents and six siblings. She is survived by three daughters, Martina (Jack) Wiessing of Jacksonville, FL, Jody (C.A.) Russell of Dublin, GA, and Deanna (JR) Curtis of New Berlin; seven grandchildren, Sherry Darsey of Savannah, GA, Kurt Bond of Warner Robbins, GA, Tammy Allen of Dublin, GA, Shelly Stephens of New Berlin, Lea-ann Jones of Jacksonville, FL, Shannon Niemick of Jacksonville, FL, and Pam Hardin of New Berlin; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Bessie Cummings of New Berlin; brother-in-law, Gilbert Dudley of New Berlin; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the ceremony at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at McCullough-Delaney & Butler Funeral Home, 714 E. Gibson St., New Berlin with Rev. Warren Brosi officiating. Burial will follow at Berlin Cemetery.
