Gail Thomas Day, 76, of Springfield, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born august 1, 1940 in Alsey to Claude and Frances Wilson Day. He married Dixie L. Smith June 18, 1962. Gail retired from the State of Illinois as a bank examiner after 19 years of service. He was an avid sports fan for the Illini and St. Louis Cardinals. Gail was a member of the Lions Club and was a red coat volunteer at Memorial Medical Center. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Dixie; daughter, Candy (Bret) Wilson of Pawnee; son Jeff (Tracy) Day of Springfield; grandchildren, Joel Day of Kansas City, Jillian Day of Springfield; brothers, Gerald Day of Winchester and Darrell Day of Jacksonville; sister Dorothy Cox of Winchester. Visitation: 4pm-7pm, Monday, March 20, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Celebration of Life Service: 10 am, Tuesday, March 21 at Cherry Hills Baptist Church, 2125 Woodside Road, Springfield, with Pastor Brian Wilmarth officiating.
