

Gary Duane Smiley, 61, of Springfield, passed away at 10:24 p.m. on Friday, December 26, 2014 at St. John's Hospital. Gary was born August 18, 1953 in Bethesda, MD, the son of Duane C. and Francine T. Jadosh Smiley. He married Debra Webster on August 16, 1975 in Boise, Idaho. Gary was a graduate of Rockville High School. He was a proud war veteran of the United States Army. He was briefly stationed at the Pentagon. Gary earned his associate's degree in Applied Science from the City Colleges of Chicago. He was employed as a shelter worker at The Salvation Army, where he assisted clients in their search for housing and employment. He enjoyed his work thoroughly. Gary was a very dedicated soldier of The Salvation Army. He loved computers, movies, poetry, and reading the Bible. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Kenneth A. Smiley. Gary is survived by his wife, Debra Smiley; one son, David A. Smiley; and one daughter, Lorene K. Smiley, all of Springfield; his mother, Francine T. Smiley of Oklahoma City, OK; two nieces; and three nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. An additional visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at The Salvation Army, 530 N. 6th Street. Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at The Salvation Army, with Major Steve Woodard, officiating.
