She was born on November 11, 1954, in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Jerald and Georgia (Elms) Johnson. Gayle married David Taylor in 1991, in Springfield, IL.
Gayle graduated from Springfield Southeast High School with the class of 1972. She worked in various job sectors until she returned to Lincoln Land Community College
in 1991, where she obtained her Medical Office Associate Certification. Gayle then went on to work as a Medical Assistant until 1995, when she began her career as a Medical Records Supervisor with SIU School of Medicine for 22 years, until her retirement in 2017. After her retirement she co-owned a small family woodworking business with David where they created cars, trains, and other toys and decorations that were sold at craft fairs and festivals for many years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, playing games, and most of all being with her dogs. Gayle was the secretary for the Cool Cruisers Car Club for many years where she enjoyed seeing the members and cars at the shows. She later became involved with the Capitol Canine Training Club where she would watch her champion dog, Mac, as he ran agility and won many awards. When not watching the in-ring trials, she could be found time keeping for the club and other show members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dale Anderson; uncle, Robert “Bobby” Johnson; and her beloved aunt, Marilyn Slevin.
Gayle is survived by her husband, David Taylor of Springfield; daughter, Kelly (Larry) Nunn of Springfield; grandson, Brett Johnson of Springfield; and brother, Gary (Sandy) Johnson of Sun City Center, FL.
