She was born in Montclair, New Jersey, October 13, 1973 the daughter of Eugene and Christine Madison Helwig. Her mother and her grandparents preceded her in death
She married Donnie James in Springfield March 13, 2013, and he survives.
She is also survived by her daughter, Mackenzie Lercher of Green Valley, IL, her father, Eugene Helwig, a sister, Kimberly (husband Paul) Wetnight both of Brazil, IN, a half-sister Robin Rector of Washington, a half-brother, Kord Dickson of California, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gena worked for Nation Laboratories and was a graduate of the Midwest Institute of Technology
Gena enjoyed everything about motorcycles. She was a devoted Harley Davidson rider. Gena owned a custom Harley and showed it extensively. She won several awards and was very proud of the photo lay out of her bike in a magazine. She loved her family and friends unconditionally and was always there for them. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
A celebration of Gena’s life will be held Friday at Webbles 4136 N. Peoria Rd. Springfield, IL beginning at 6 pm.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions in her memory to the Animal Protective League of Springfield and Sangamon County.
