Gene Pool Marlin

He was born September 18, 1941, in Heralds Prairie, Illinois. The only child of Charles and Doris Lucille (Pool) Marlin. Gene married Carol Ann (Broaddus) Marlin on January 1, 1982. She preceded him in death on September 29, 2020.

Upon an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps, Gene was appointed to the Illinois State Police. In a career spanning three decades, he served as a Trooper and worked his way up through several ranks and positions. Gene retired with 36 years of service as Director of the Illinois State Police.

He is survived by his sons, Douglas (Angie) Marlin of Lincoln and Christopher (Maggie) Weidler of Springfield; daughter, Brenda Jo Marlin-Miller of Springfield; grandchildren, Rachel (fiancé, Dan) Marlin of Ottawa, Brett (Maycee) Marlin of Lincoln, Blake (fiancé, Jazmine) Marlin of Crown Point, IN, Lilly and Molly Weidler of Springfield, Dylan (fiancé, Becca) Miller of McLean, and Wyatt Miller of Morton.

Gene is also preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home-Chatham, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, IL.

In keeping with Gene’s wishes, cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Graveside Ceremony: 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2023, at Roselawn Memorial Park, Springfield, Illinois. Military honors will be provided by the Department of Defense and the Illinois State Police Honor Guard.
