George Egizii

George Egizii, 94, of Springfield, died at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at his home. George was born December 13, 1919 in Riverton, the son of Arquillio and Elvera Egizii. He married Teresa Marie Connor on September 20, 1941 at St. Agnes Catholic Church; she preceded him in death on June 28, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, George Ann Martin; his parents; four brothers, John, Joseph "Pat," Arquilino "CoCo," and Tony Egizii. George was member of Blessed Sacrament Parish. He was part-owner of the Italian American Importing Company; owner of Springfield Baker's Supply; part-owner of Tomboy restaurant; and owner/host of La Sorella restaurant. After his retirement at age 85, he volunteered at St. Martin de Porres Center. George served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Army during World War II as a part of the 253rd Construction Battalion. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #158 and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Jo Egizii, Katie (husband, Joe) Antonacci, Maureen Egizii, and his son-in-law, Dave Martin, all of Springfield. He is also survived by three grandsons, Mike Martin, Chris Martin and Joel Antonacci; two granddaughters, Erin (husband, Van) Moore and Libby (husband, Aaron) Spengler; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Concelebrated Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield, with The Very Rev. David Hoefler, V.G., principal celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army.
