George E. Irwin, Jr.

George E. "Dago" Irwin Jr., 59, of Springfield died at 11:50 p.m. on Monday, September 15, 2008 at St. John's Hospital. George was born on April 12, 1949 in Springfield, the son of George Edward and Dora Mae DeSalle Irwin, Sr. George was a graduate of Griffin High School's Class of 1967 and worked for Sasco Auto Parts. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, and loved to fish and watch NASCAR racing. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Toni Applegate Irwin of Springfield; daughter, Sara J. (husband, Carl) Winkel of New Berlin; son, George Michael Irwin of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren, Brett, Desiree and Katie; two brothers, John Irwin of Richland, WA and Chuck (wife, Denise) Irwin of Decatur; sister, Cathy (husband, Lloyd) Marshall of Loami; several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his best-friend, Darryl Trader of Springfield. Family will receive friends from 5:00 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Graveside ceremonies will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2008 at Calvary Cemetery with burial following.
