

George J. Kasper, 84, of Springfield, died at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Oak Terrace Healthcare Center. George was born May 20, 1931 in Riverton, the son of Thomas G. and Theresa Vala Kasper. He married Treva L. Hellmeyer on August 31, 1952 in Riverton. George graduated from Riverton High School in 1950 and attended Olivet Nazarene College and McKendree University, where he earned his associate's degree. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955 as a 2nd Class Petty Officer and 2nd Class Radarman. He was employed with the U.S. Post Office for 32 years and previously as a Production Quality Control Officer for E.L. Bruce Paneling Company in Memphis, TN. George attended Southern View Chapel. He enjoyed painting and woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Thomas and John Kasper. He is survived by his wife, Treva L. Kasper of Springfield; sons, Larry L. (wife, Marlus) Kasper, Randall C. (wife, Anita) Kasper, and Charles E. (wife, Miriam) Kasper, all of Springfield; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Gary Gilley officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Department of Defense and the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
