

George Kenal, 93, of Springfield, passed away at 12:50 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2002 at St. John’s Hospital George was born August 7, 1908 the son of George and Monica Moyskus Kenal Sr. in Athens, Illinois. He married Mary Genevieve Galassi in 1932 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. George retired as a coalminer after being employed by Eddy Coal Company in Cantrall from September 1947 to November 1964 and other coalmine companies. The Springfield Sanitary District later employed him, for seven years. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and United Mine Workers District 12. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Mary; son: George Kenal, Jr. and four sisters. He is survived by one son: Albert Kenal of Springfield; three grandchildren: Karen Albert, Robert and Mark Kenal all of Springfield; four great grandchildren: Jamie Albert, Stephanie Albert, Terri Albert all of Springfield and Jason Kenal of LaGrange, MO and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 5-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2002. Visitation will begin with a wake services at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2002 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church with Reverend John Titus celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
