

George L. Lane, 70, of Springfield, died at 10:10 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at his residence. George was born October 29, 1941 in Springfield, the son of Walter G. and Doris L. (Doggett) Lane. He married Mary Elaine Walsh on November 25, 1961 at St. Aloysius. George graduated from Lanphier High School in 1959. He proudly served his country in the Illinois National Guard as a sniper and tank mechanic. He was also employed by Bailey Supply, Sangamo Electric, Illinois Bell for 38 years, Pasfield and Lincoln Greens Golf Courses, and the State of IL. George was a life member of K of C-Devereux Heights #4175, NRA, Illinois Bell Pioneer Club, and the Mustang Club of America. He was known for being hard working, loving, honest, intelligent, having a good sense of humor, and willing to help anyone. In his spare time, he loved cars, racing, fishing, country western dancing, going out to eat, and spending time with his family. He especially loved spending time with Brandon and at his home in Florida. George was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Oakland Raiders. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary, of Springfield; his son, Jeff, of Springfield; his grandson, Brandon Lane; two sisters, Dee Winterbauer and Connie (husband, Dale) Bounds, both of Springfield; three nieces; one nephew; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces, and great- nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2012 at St. Aloysius Church, 2000 Sangamon Avenue, Springfield with Rev. Daniel Bergbower, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's Hospital Hospice Program, 800 E. Carpenter, Springfield, IL 62702.
