He was born on April 28, 1941, in Springfield, IL, the son of Salvatore and Lena (Santelli) Laurenzana. George married Della Shures on March 14, 1970, in Springfield.
George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He went on to become a Certified Master Mechanic and a Certified BMW Specialist at Landmark Ford until retirement. George was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church. He enjoyed time with family, music, playing pool, dancing, anything car-related, and making people smile. He was a treasured friend to many. George always said, "family first" and it showed daily.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Frank, Charles, Albert, James, and Joseph Laurenzana; and sisters, Mary Walter, Rose Heaton, and Phyllis Blackburn.
George is survived by his wife, Della Laurenzana of Springfield; children, Diana Oder and Danny Laurenzana, both of Springfield, Michael Tory (Jennifer) Laurenzana of Kincaid, Tad Laurenzana of Springfield, Shane (Kristy) Laurenzana of Sherman, and Christie (Chris) DeFrates of Springfield; grandchildren, Ben, Adrienne, Jennifer, Ashley, Alex, Anthony, Lacey, Jacob, Luke, Porter, Easton, Levi, and Samantha; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 1020 N. Milton Ave., Springfield, with Rev. Brendan Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with military honors provided.
