

He was born in Springfield, Aug. 10, 1933 the son of George W. and Francene (Bruckman) Meidel. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Yousef Ashwas and a daughter-in-law Ginger Meidel.
George served in the United States Army. He was a member of Laurel United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men. He was an avid golfer, but most of all, enjoyed his family and especially his grandchildren.
George was an educator with Springfield School District #186, teaching at Jefferson Middle School and Springfield High School. He retired in 1993 as the Assistant Principal at Springfield Southeast High School. He also coached golf and wrestling and was a member of the Illinois Education Association and the National Education Association, as well as the Illinois Principal’s Association.
He married Joella Brewer-Anderson in 1982 and she survives. He is also survived by his children; Michael (Janice) Meidel of St. Petersburg, FL, Catherine (Ward) Scott of Le Claire, IA, and Kurt (Deb) Meidel of O’Fallon, IL, his step-children; Karen (Bert) Bennett of Sherman, IL, Kelley (Steve) Jeffers of Springfield, and Kirk (Heather) Anderson of Portland, OR. He has 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Marlene (Sam) Cotner of Bloomington, IN, his brother, Jerry (Karen) Meidel of Locust Grove, VA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation and Service: The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm Tuesday Jan. 27, 2015 until time of funeral services at 6:30 pm Tuesday at Laurel United Methodist Church 631 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield, IL. Rev. Kent Lolling will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015 at the Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL with Rev. Gene Southard officiating.
