Mr. Meidel was my PE teacher at Jefferson Middle School.  He was a man we all looked up to.  He was strong and kept himself in perfect physical condition, but it was his calm demeanor that led by example of what a man should be.  I am in tears now because people like Mr. Meidel should never die, and his spirit passed along to his students will endure. I wish I were half the man Mr. Meidel was.  Gerald (Jerry) Jones

George and Joella were my neighbors on Lawrence.  George was always so friendly and welcoming.  I will always remember playing in their basement with the grandkids.  My deepest sympathies

I am so sorry to hear of this. He did all he could to keep us 'Class of 86' on the straight and narrow. A good guy with a terrific sense of humor.

George was my wrestling coach in high school. He was a great mentor and an even better friend.  My prayers go out to the family.  He will always be remembered and hold a special place in my memories.

Joella and family.  My husband and I were so sorry to read about George's death.  He was a fine man, teacher and administrator.  I worked with George many years at Southeast and always found him to be a fair man.  He was well liked by everyone.

It was my great privilege to work with George at Southeast. He was inspirational in the way he worked our student population- always respectful and encouraging. As a teacher, I knew that he would provide valuable insight into any situation I had to deal with. He was a blessing to those he helped. You have my deepest condolences.

George Meidel was as decent, kind, and gentle a man as I have ever known. I first met him when he refereed our junior high b-ball games (which he did exceptionally well).  Later, when I attended Springfield High School, Mr. Meidel was the wrestling coach;  I gave some thought to switching into that sport merely because of his presence. Still later, I was privileged to work under his supervision at the Jefferson Middle School. He was an example for me which should make you, his survivors, proud, in this your time of sorrow.  May the Lord grant you peace.   I am sure George is safe His Care.

My prayers and condolences to Mr. Meidel's family.  I was one of his office assistants in 1986. Mr. Meidel was always a nice, kind person and he was always fair.

My condolences to the family of George. We were friends and classmates in high school, and I especially remember him as being one of the brightest in our class. I used to see and talk with him at the high school reunions, but haven't for the past fifteen or so years. I also used to see him on the links at Bunn Park, and he was a very good player. He will be missed.

I remember Mr. Meidel from SHS.  Then, in later years, I often talked to him while I was jogging in Washington Park.  A top rate man.

I will miss George.  I remember when he lived on Friars Lane in Sherwood and was on my paper route.  At Springfield High, George was always highly respected by his students and the wrestlers.  He was an honest, fair, religious and family man.  The world could use more men like him.
