George David Moon

George David Moon, 54, of Loami, died at 9:08 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2006 in rural Pleasant Plains. He was born on August 22, 1951 in Wichita, KS, the son of George and Roberta Shinnick Moon. He married Katherine House on March 9, 1974 in Springfield. He worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation as an Engineering Technician retiring in 2002 after thirty-three years. George loved to fly and was a licensed pilot. He was an active member of the Illinois Aviation Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association. An avid hunter, sportsman and conservationist; George was a founding member of the Springfield Chapter of the NRA, a former President and lifetime member of the Lefthanders Gun Club, a charter member and sponsor of Lake Sanchris Ducks Unlimited and a member of the Illinois Water Fowlers Association. He also taught Hunter Safety. One of George’s greatest passions was hunting. He enjoyed duck and goose hunting and making decoys. He was a dog lover and self-proclaimed History Channel junkie. George will be remembered by his friends and family as a super grandpa who lived life to the fullest with zest and passion. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Roberta Moon and his faithful dogs: Misty, Brandy, Zack and J.R. He is survived by his wife, Katherine “Kathy” Moon of Loami; two daughters: Becky (husband, Corey) Hale of Chatham and Lisa Moon of Madison, WI; two grandchildren: Hannah and Garrett Hale of Chatham; two brothers: Edward J. (wife, Arletta) Moon of rural Rushville and Ronald (wife, Lori) Moon of Virginia; three sisters: Janice Moon, Mary (husband, Larry) Pemberton and Michelle (husband, Pete) Maher all of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins; dogs Riley and Jewel and grand-dog Digby. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 10, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Additional visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Loami Christian Church, 309 E. Center St., Loami. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at Loami Christian Church, with Brandon Boyd, officiating. Cremation will be accorded by the Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
