George A. Woods, 88, of Springfield, died at 10:15 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at St. Johns Hospital. George was born on May 13, 1929 in Springfield, the son of George A. and Ida Dollar Woods. He married Darlene Goleash on June 5, 1959 in Topeka, KS; she preceded him in death on April 30, 2018. George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Fiat Allis in 1978, after 30 years of service, and worked for the Springfield Park District for eight years. George enjoyed fishing, bowling and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William and Bob Woods; and three sisters, Nellie Woods, Ethel Campbell, and Ollie Stone. He is survived by his sons, Michael, Mark, George, and Ronnie Woods; daughters, Debbie Glenn, Brenda Vaughn, and Bonnie Polster; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ellen (husband, Jim) Hollis and Mary (husband, Bob) Stover. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Private family ceremonies will be held.
