Georgia F. Kent

She was born on April 11, 1946 in East St. Louis, IL, the daughter of the late George and Faye (Warren) Hartman. She married Robert Kent, Jr. in East St. Louis, IL, in 1963 and he preceded her in death in April of 1991.

Before her retirement, Georgia had most recently worked in Tax Collection for Chatham IL Township. Prior to that she had done secretarial work for several different businesses and was also co-owner of a business called Computer Systems & Services (CSS). She was a member of Sugar Creek United Methodist Church in Chatham, IL and an avid animal lover and a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

In addition to her professional career, Georgia was active in the Ansarettes, Women of Today, the Chatham Jaycees and her bowling league serving in various roles including treasurer and secretary.

She was married to Bob Kent for nearly 30 years before his untimely death widowed her, leaving her with three young children. As a single mother, Georgia worked tirelessly to be both mom and dad for her children, and they wanted for nothing growing up. She was active in her children’s lives attending their Scouting trips, sporting events and after school activities.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mercedes Kent of Springfield and Ashley (husband Graham Weir) Kent of Newcastle upon Tyne, England; a grandson Devon Skube of Springfield; a brother Lt. Col. Michael (wife Billie) Hartman of San Antonio, TX and Charlotte (husband Rob) Bruce of Shiloh, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Robert Kent III and a brother Terry Hartman.

Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield where visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022 from 4pm until the time of the funeral service at 6 pm. Cremation rites will follow and inurnment will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11am at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield.
