Even though I was born & raised in Springfield, and always remembered Wayne & Rita at family re-unions, Wayne and I were never really close, I suppose because of being only extended family, but every memory I have of him was a good one.
I haven’t been to Springfield that much since leaving for Colorado in 1974 after helping Dave Wood move there, but whenever I was in Springfield, I tried to visit Wayne. I am very thankful to have seen him just last year, and will always remember how gracious and polite he still was.
He was a premium guy and a rare gentlemen like you very seldom meet, and as I understand it, also with a heart of gold. He will be missed.

Sincerely,

I always remember your dad as being a gentle kind man with a good sense of humor. Your home on Spaulding Orchard Road was a fun place. Both your parents were wonderful people.
It is hard to write about the passing of a parent. It is felt in the core of your soul. I, and the rest of my family, feel for you all at this time of loss.
Sincerely,
Laurie and family

Wayne was a good guy, as everyone knows. One of the nicest "almost stepdad" (inside joke), i've had the pleasure to know. And passed it on to all of his kids and grandkids, as well.
My prayers go out to all of his family and friends.

I met Wayne several decades ago after purchasing my home and having him look at my heating and air conditioning system. A very friendly man who was quite knowledgeable. We spoke a few times about hunting in Pike county along with great spots for finding mushrooms. My wife and I wish to express our sympathy to the families. May you rest in the Lords kingdom.

Wayne was a good man. He was one of the many positive male role models in my life. The Wood family is part of my extended family. I pray for peace and healing for everyone.
