

Gerhard “Gary” Griffin, 72, of Springfield, died at 2:26 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at St. John’s Hospital. Gary was born on December 16, 1933 in Lancaster, PA, the son of Bernard P. and Bertha Theilken Griffin. He was a U.S. Airforce Korean War Veteran. He worked at Sangamo Electric for twenty-five years until his retirement. He enjoyed working on cars and was a good mechanic. Gary was always very generous and very helpful to others. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister: Patricia Schmikler. He is survived by his mother: Bertha Griffin of Springfield; one brother: Bernard (wife, Mary) Griffin of Springfield; one sister: Ursula Watkins of Austin, TX and several nieces and nephews. The family welcomes friends to visit from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 24, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola, officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
