Gertrude W. Young

Gertrude W. Young, 91, of Springfield, died at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center. Gertrude was born on August 2, 1916 in Springfield, the daughter of Peter and Hanora McLaughlin Wilson. She married Arthur T. Young on June 8, 1936 at St. Patrick's in Springfield. He preceded her in death in 2000. Gertrude was a member of the Church of the Little Flower and a former member of St. Joseph and St. Aloysius Parishes. She was a dedicated mother who loved spending time with her family. Gertrude just adored her flower garden and was said to have a "green thumb." Gertrude lived at Sunny Acres Nursing Home for two years where she enjoyed and appreciated her care. Aside from her husband, Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Phillip in 1975; her siblings; one grandchild, and one great-grandchild. Gertrude is survived by her sons, Raymond A. (wife, Patricia) Young of Bethany, John "Jack" (wife, Ginger) Young of Decatur, Larry J. (wife, Sharon) Young of Springfield, Mark S. (wife, Fran) Young of Petersburg; her daughters, Rosemary J. Lascody of Springfield, Janet R. (husband, Raymond) Langley of Springfield, Carol A. (husband, Richard) Ritz of Springfield; twenty-seven grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Eva Young of Rochester; as well as several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St, Springfield, IL 62703. A Eucharistic Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on, Monday, May 5, 2008 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield, IL 62703 with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Aloysius School, 2125 North 21st St., Springfield, IL 62702.
