

Gregory Deon Cox, "Coxie", 57, of Springfield, died August 14, 2008. Greg was born on March 4, 1951, to Virgil and Geneva Clark Cox. Greg was raised in Taylorville and graduated from Taylorville High School with the class of '69. He attended Eastern Illinois University. Greg proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp, and he received the National Defense Service Medal and Rifle Expert Badge. Greg was employed by the Chicago and Illinois Midland Railroad as a conductor. He most recently owned Cox Outdoor Catering and Cox Cleaning Companies. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Danielle DeRochi. Greg is survived by Cindy Sgro Cox; daughter, Kelly Ann; and son Jason Gregory; brothers, Terry Cox (Jill) and Christopher Cox; sisters, Patty Putnam (Jerry), Paula Waterman (Vic), and Rita Altman (Jim). Greg will be remembered for his unique and kind ways, always thinking of others. Anyone who had the pleasure of attending a catering event that Greg hosted knew what a fabulous chef he was. He had a great love for animals, leaving behind five Siamese cats and his beloved baby raccoon, Lilly. Visitation for Greg will be held from 3:00 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral ceremonies will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Following ceremonies at the funeral home, the Department of Defense and Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will provide military honors at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Memorials may be made to the Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Rd., Springfield, IL 62702.
