

Gregory James Lakebrink, 66, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at his home. He was born in St. Louis County, MO, to Albert William and Margaret Leona Lakebrink. He graduated from St. Louis University High School and St. Louis University. He also attended graduate school at the University of Iowa to further his education in art and painting. Greg was an active member of the Sierra Club for many years and received the Heart of Gold award in recognition of extraordinary commitment and dedication for his environmental work in the Springfield community. He was an accomplished artist and a past member of various art organizations in the Springfield area. Greg was also an avid cyclist and runner, a past member of the Springfield Bicycle Club and Runner's Club, and participated in many competitive cycling and running events. Greg had a genuine passion for wine and beer making and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his efforts with friends and family. He retired from the IL Department of Revenue in 2014. Greg is survived by his wife, Sibyl Ann Lakebrink; his son, Keir Goatley; granddaughter, Keilyn Goatley (fianc, Kenneth Hyde); siblings, Steve, Jeff, Tom, and Laurie Lakebrink; sisters-in-law, Charen and Bev Lakebrink; as well as nieces, Maggie, Nicole, and Kuryn; and nephews, Jeremy, William, Lucien and Elgin. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A Funeral Ceremony will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies. Private burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date. Greg was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his survivors.
