

Gwendolyn L. Faires, 87, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday May 16, 2015 at Vonderleith Care Center in Mt. Pulaski, IL. She was born on April 30, 1928 in Bellwood, IL., to Walter and Norma Gerhardt Maze. Gwendolyn married John D. Faires and he preceded her in death in 2006.
Mrs. Faires is survived by one son Terry White of Mulberry Grove, IL., three daughters: Bonnie Winter of Springfield, Gwen Morse of Sherman, and Linda Lundin of Maroa, IL., eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters, and her beloved step father Wm. Pearl May who helped raise her.
Gwendolyn worked at a mental health hospital in Chicago that served females coming back from Military Service. She helped her husband who owned, trained, raced, and bred Standardbred racehorses at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. She was a school bus monitor, who loved working with children, for First Student Inc., working there into her 80’s. Gwendolyn was a singer with the Sweet Adeline’s and she was a member of Clementine Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder and sang in the church choir."
