Harland L. Vincent, 81, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011 at his home.
He was born in Ripley, IL February 3, 1930 the son of Cliford and Mildred (Hess) Vincent. He married Wanda Stevens October 21, 1951 and she preceded him in death March 8, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Cliford and a sister, Florence Logsdon.
Harland served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He earned the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and a good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Union Local 218 in Springfield, IL. He worked for various companies and retired from Henson Robinson Co. Harland was an avid gardener. He spent countless hours in his gardens both flower and vegetable. Many of his plants he started from seed. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. As a fan of all sports, he was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Surviving are his daughter, Debby Drone of Cantrall, IL, his son, Randy Vincent of Springfield, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, his sister, Evelyn (husband Jim) Bean of Springfield, his half brother, Davis (wife Eloise) Seckman of Rushville, IL and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen where visitation will be on Tuesday November 22, 2011 from 4-7 pm and where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday November 23, 2011 with Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
