

He was born on June 22, 1921 in Tallula, IL, the son of the late Troy and Letha (Daniel) Carter. He married Kathryn Davis on Feb. 10, 1946 in Chandlerville, IL and she preceded him in death on Sept. 13, 2005.
Mr. Carter was a parts manager for the State of Illinois. Previously he had been a manger at Uptown Garage for 40 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the World War II era. He was also a member of Springfield Southern Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughter Beth (husband Norman) Roughley of Springfield, a grandson, Joshua (wife Brittney) Roughley of Springfield, a sister, Janette Gum of Lakeland FL, a brother Ronald L. Carter of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother Donald Carter and a sister Allegra Tinsley.
Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield where visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 30, , 2011 from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011 at 10 am at the funeral home, with Rev. Mike Keppler officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield.
