Harold "Gene" Waddell

Harold "Gene" Waddell, 82, of Springfield, passed away at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 4, 2010 at his residence. Gene was born September 28, 1927 in Harristown, IL to Harold and Maude Cowgill Waddell. He married Emily Behland on July 2, 1975 in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Waddell proudly served his country in the Army. He retired in 1987 from Transcon Trucking after 34 years of service. He was a lifelong member of the Teamsters Union, a member of the Elks Lodge #158 for 42 years and Eagles Aeire #437 for the past 10 years. Gene was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling. He is survived by his wife, Emily of Springfield; two sons, Robert (companion, Phyllis) of Carlyle and Tom (wife, Deborah) Waddell of Springfield; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A graveside ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 9, 2010 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with his son, Tom Waddell, eulogist. Military honors will be provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and Department of Defense. A procession will assemble at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home and will depart by 9:30 a.m.
