Harold M. and Barbara Long Schroll, of Chatham, passed away peacefully, within hours of one another, on October 5, 2016 at St. Johns Hospice, Springfield, IL. Barbara was born September 2, 1925 in Jacksonville, IL to Walter H. and Emma H. Johnson Long. Harold was born May 22, 1921 in Chatham to Rudolph and Minnie Dieck Schroll. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Elsie Buchter, Esther Ritter Buchter, and brother, Norman Schroll. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; half brothers: Myron Long, Raymond Long, Harold Long, Gerald Long and half sister: Helen Farmer. Harold served his country in the US Army during WWII; during the African campaign, he saw a picture of Barbara and arranged to meet her when he returned home. The Love Story beganthey married January 25, 1947. They lived in Virginia, IL for two years before moving to the Chatham area. They bought a farm near Pawnee, farming and operating a pay fishing lake Schrolls Lake, working side by side for 18 years. Harold also served as a bus driver for Ball Chatham Schools during this time. They shared a special love for over 69 years and their journey continues together, just as they would want. They will be greatly missed by their daughters: Dolores (Al) Ostermeier of Chatham, Beverly (Bob) Dorworth of Springfield, and Sandra (James) Turner of Springfield, IL; grandchildren: Eden (Tim) Lindberg of Springfield, Will (Amy) Ostermeier of Chatham, Jason Dorworth of Springfield, Josh (Ashley) Dorworth of Springfield, Todd Gietl (fiance Christina Gauthier) of Chicago; great grandchildren, Luke, Matthew, Kaleb, Peter and Anna Jade Lindberg, Chase and Hayden Ostermeier, and Presley Dorworth. Harold is survived by sister, Margaret Lindell of New Richmond, WI and Ann (George) Klemaier of Clearwater, FL. Barbara is survived by sister-in-law, Hazelle Long of Jacksonville, IL. Also surviving Barb and Harold are many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Their family will greet friends during Visitation from 10am until the time of the Funeral Ceremony at Noon, Monday, October 10, at Sangamon Prairie Reception Center, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, IL, 62629.Reverend Clarence Rogers will officiate. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
