

Harold Arnold Rothermel, 85, life-long resident of Springfield, passed away at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, April 12, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born February 24, 1916 the son of Mathias William and Ottilia Hagele Rothermel in Springfield. He married Wanda Cory on September 13, 1986 at Christ the King Church and she survives. Mr. Rothermel was the owner and operator of Rothermel Construction Company and part owner in the Hardee's Corporation in Springfield and surrounding areas, one of which, was the top producing store in America. Mr. Rothermel served his country during World War II in the U.S. NAVY as a diver. He was a member of Christ the King Church, Knights of Columbus Council #364, Elks Lodge #158, Sangamo Club, and the Lincoln Land Gun Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: George; a sister: Delores Winkler; and a wife: Ursula Neighbors. Mr. Rothermel is survived by his wife: Wanda of Springfield; a sister: Joan (husband-Jack) Callahan of Springfield; a brother: Leo Rothermel of PA; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home on Monday, April 16, 2001 from 4-7 p.m. with a Wake Service at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at Christ the King on Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Meehling celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
