She was born on Jan. 12, 1919 in Springfield, the daughter of the late Edgar and Nellie (Nottingham) Marion. She married Alford E. Zick on July 22, 1937 in Springfield and he preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1998.
Hazel worked in school cafeterias for District 186 in Springfield. She had previously worked as the manager of the grill at Dave Watt Pharmacy in Springfield. She was a member of Eastview Baptist Church in Springfield and was active in the Eastview Baptist Craft Club. She loved crocheting, quilting, knitting, and reading. She was also an avid NASCAR fan.
Hazel is survived by her 3 children, Beverly (husband Don) Reeves of Hawley, TX, Alford (wife Susan) Zick, Jr. of Barrington, IL, and James (wife Marilyn) Zick of Springfield; 6 grandchildren, Billy, Juanell, Craig, Jeffrey, Jennifer, and Matthew; 17 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother Carl; 2 sisters Bonnie and Joy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by 11 siblings.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, where visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021 from 10:30 am until time of the funeral service at 12 Noon. The funeral services will be at the funeral home with Pastor Bennie Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield.
