

Helen E. Brosnahan, 92, of Springfield, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2002 at St. Joseph’s Home. Helen was born April 14, 1910 the daughter of Charles and Kate Schoenborn Buswell in Kinmundy, Illinois. She married John F. Brosnahan in 1938 in Champaign, IL.: he preceded her in death on August 29, 1994. Helen was a graduate of Champaign High School and worked as the head bookkeeper for Kuhn’s department store in Champaign until the time of her marriage. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, St. Agnes Altar Society, St. Joseph’s Home Coterie and had previously volunteered at St. John’s Hospital. Helen was known for her exquisite needlepoint works and her delicious cooking. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by a daughter: Catherine B. Bender of Baltimore, Maryland; two sons: John B. Brosnahan of St. Paul, Minnesota, James C. Brosnahan of Springfield; two grandchildren: Kate (husband, Tom) Simmons of Baltimore, Maryland, Tom Bender of Saarbrucken, Germany: two great grandchildren: Paige and Jack Simmons of Baltimore, Maryland; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 4-6:00 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2002. Visitation will begin with a wake service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2002 at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Very Reverend Patrick Wright, V.F. celebrant.
