Helen Jane Dunn

Helen Jane Dunn, 90, of Springfield, IL passed away at 12:03 a.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at her daughter's residence in Mesa, AZ. Helen was born on December 14, 1920 in Morris, IL the daughter of Vince and Lucille Carr Carey. She married Leo William Dunn on February 12, 1945 in Kinsman, IL, he later preceded her in death. Helen was a Springfield resident for over 40 years and had also lived in the Newman, Bloomington, Streator and Kinsman, IL communities. She worked her entire 35 year career in the field of education at various schools including, University of Illinois- Springfield, Ursuline Academy, and Athens, Williamsville, Newman, and Coal City High Schools until her retirement. Helen was very active in the community and was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and their parish groups, UIS Alumni Board, ISU Alumni Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Teacher's Retirement, 'ALL" Adult Life Long Learning, HESCO, and Operation Snowball for school age children. She is also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Robert, Joseph, and James Carey; and one sister, Barbara Miklos. Helen is survived by her children, Margaret Dunn of Florence, AZ, Patricia Billings of Monticello, GA, Robert Dunn of Queen Creek, AZ, Mary Beth Nichols of Mary Ester, FL, Regina Dunn of Mesa , AZ, Edward Dunn of West Des Moines, IA, and Michael Dunn of Springfield, IL; her sisters, Jean Whamond of Schaumburg, IL, and Margaret Kime of Dwight, IL; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation/Funeral Mass: Family will receive visitors from 9:30 a.m. until the time of a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos, Ave, Springfield, IL, with Rev. Robert Jallas, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
