She was born on May 20, 1930, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Ralph and Edith (Lester) Thompson.
Helen worked on the assembly line at Hobbs for 43 years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Deaf Senior Citizens Club of Springfield.
She is survived by 2 granddaughters, Tasha Johnson and Amy Friedman , both of Springfield, a daughter-in-law Susan Johnson of Springfield ,and a sister Betty (husband Dale) Mullen of Auburn, IL. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Karen Browning, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son David R. Johnson, and 4 brothers, Eugene, Warren, Francis, and Robert Thompson.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, where visitation will be held on Monday, August 4, 2014 from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at 1 pm at the funeral home, with Rev. Mark Gifford officiating. Burial will follow at Virden Cemetery, Virden, IL.
