Helen Margaret Peifer, 96, of Springfield, died at 6:15 a.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Home. Helen was born June 15, 1911 in Venice, IL, the daughter of Martin and Catherine A. Loftus Peifer. Helen graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Springfield, received her Bachelor’s from the College of St. Teresa in Winona, MN, received her Master’s from the University of Illinois and did post-graduate work at the University of Wisconsin and Purdue University. She was a teacher of mathematics and aeronautics for Springfield District #186 prior to her retirement in 1972. Helen was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association, the Illinois Retired Teachers Education Association and the University of Illinois Alumni Association. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister: Catherine Mary Peifer in 2003. Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Home, 3306 S. 6th St. Rd., Springfield with Rev. Charles Dahlby officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. The family of Helen Margaret Peifer is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
