Helen Maxine Riech

Helen Maxine Riech, 89, of Springfield, passed away on February 1, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born on June 7, 1929 in Springfield to George Washington and Edith Anne Lee Carter. Helen married Theodore Elmer Riech in Springfield on June 5, 1947 and he preceded her in death on December 7, 1990.

Mrs. Riech is survived by her children: Karen (Robert) Baker and Theodore G. “Sonny” Riech both of Springfield, IL., Janet (Rick) McElvoy of Springfield, MO., and Carl (Brenda) Riech and Wayne (Mary) Riech both of Springfield, IL., eleven grandchildren: Sean, Derek, Jason, Christopher, Carl Riech, Stephanie Floyd, Cassie and Tiffany Riech, Jamie, Tom and Tim, eleven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren: Lee Ann, Curt, Paula, Donnie, Mary Sue, Karen, Joe and Terry and many step-great-grandchildren . She was preceded in death by her daughter Sharon Kay, three brothers: Robert, Butch and George Richard Carter Sr., and three sisters: Ruth, Dorothy and Eleanor.

Helen worked in the cafeteria at Marine Bank for several years retiring in 1990. She was an avid Bingo player frequenting Caritas Bingo Hall and she enjoyed reading romance novels. Helen liked to birdwatch, especially cardinals, and she loved her cat Kiki.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday February 16, 2019 at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday February 15, 2019 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street, from 4:00pm-6:00pm for a memorial gathering.
