Helen Oder Szerletich

Helen Oder Szerletich, 92, of Springfield, passed away at 5:25 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013 at St. John's Hospice. Helen was born June 16, 1920 in Springfield, the daughter of Peter W. and Mary C. Brown McCue. She married Clyde J. Oder in 1940 in Springfield; he preceded her in death in 1966. She then married James Szerletich in 1970 in Springfield; he preceded her in death in 1990. Helen was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and one sister. She is survived by her children, Mary Helen (husband, Bob) Burns of Morton, IL, Dorothy "Dottie" Boyd of Riverton, Brigadier General Joe (wife, Pat) Oder of Destin, FL, and John Oder of New Berlin; eleven grandchildren, Kevin McCarty, Joe Oder, Jr., Renee Horaney, Mary Lynn Mizeur, Julie Simon, Bob Burns, Aaron Oder, Josette Moynihan, Miranda Kennedy, and Adrienne and Jennifer Oder; and nineteen great-grandchildren. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, 524 East Lawrence Ave., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. John Ossola, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
