

Helen L. Young, 84, of Springfield, died at 3:35 p.m. on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Helen was born on July 25, 1929 in West Helena, AR. She married Russell R. Young, Jr. on March 6, 1948 in West Helena; he preceded her in death. Helen graduated from Woodruff High School in 1947. She then became a stay at home mother. In 1967, she obtained her first job at Ramsey Chevrolet, in the accounting office. She worked there just a few months and then went to work for the State Bank of Girard as head bookkeeper, until 1972. Helen then went to work for the State of Illinois, Office of Fuel Allocation, and later went to the Department of Business & Economic Development. In 1973, she transferred to the Land Reclamation Division, Mines and Minerals where she was an accountant until her retirement on December 31, 1997. Upon retirement, she became very active at Westside Christian Church as Treasurer to Women's Circles. She was also active in Sunday school, Charlie's Angels, AIM, and served as a greeter. Helen was also a "Key Lady" to Lewis Memorial Christian Village. She cherished the ladies that she would eat with on Sundays after church and the ladies that went to the movies with her. Helen enjoyed knitting, planting gardens, movies, modeling, and was a member of the Route 4 Bridge Club for 55 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, James M. and Helen E. Hamm Houston. Helen is survived by two sons, Allan R. (wife, Linda) Young of Springfield and James R. (wife, Emilia) Young of North Palm Beach, FL; one daughter, Pamela K. (husband, Sandy) Isbell of Navarre, FL; five grandchildren, Jennifer Marie (husband, Marc) DeJong, Michelle Young, Greg Sanders (wife, Tammy) Isbell, Mark (wife, Alexis) Isbell, Jamie Meredith Young (husband, Clayton) Huffman; seven great-grandchildren, Maria Grace DeJong, Rose Catherine DeJong, Clayton E. Huffman Jr. , Gage Owen Edwards, Colt Isbell, Elijah Isbell and Sarah Josephine Isbell; and one sister, Virginia Waddell of Gallatin, TN. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following visitation. Memorial Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Girard.
