

Hugh Garrett “Si” Tolan, 74, of Springfield, died at 6:56 a.m. Sunday, September 14, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born February 16, 1929 in Sangamon County, the son of Paul and Ruth Brandenburg Tolan. He married Mary A. Brown on September 1, 1951 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield. Mr. Tolan served in the U. S. Army. He was employed by Crown Finance for 24 years and the Illinois Department of Public Health for 8 years. Si was a member and former officer in the Knights of Columbus Council #364. He had been active in coaching local youth sports and was a member of Pasfield Park Men’s Golf Club. Mr. Tolan was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, and formerly served as an usher at Christ the King Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. He is survived by his wife: Mary, of Springfield; one son: Mark E. Tolan, of Chatham; one daughter: Marilee Tolan (husband, Robert) Stone, of Springfield; two sisters: Gloria Mullady and Pauline Tolan, both of Springfield; and two grandchildren: Heather and Justin Stone of Springfield. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 5-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2003. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Patrick J. Wright, V.F. celebrant. Burial will follow at Pleasant Plains Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Heart Center, 701 N.
