

I. Lawrence "Larry" Richardson, AKA "Book" and "Tampa," 81, of Springfield, IL and Clearwater, FL, died on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at his home. Larry was born December 28, 1933 in Athens, IL the son of Ray and Serena Barnes Richardson. He married Laura Sgro on October 10, 1959 in Springfield. She preceded him in death on August 18, 2000. He later married Judith Sullivan on March 16, 2002 in St. Petersburg, FL. Larry was a graduate of Havana High School and the University of Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army during peace time following the Korean War. During his career, he served as the Director of Information Technology for the IL Office of the Comptroller, Director of EDP Auditing for the IL Auditor General, and was the Deputy Secretary of State. Larry also held the positions of Systems Engineer for the IBM Corporation, President of I. Lawrence Richardson & Associates, and President of Management Control Systems, Inc. Larry was a member, past treasurer and board member of the Springfield Motor Boat Club; member, past president, vice-president, and treasurer of the Eastern Illinois University Parents Club; former member of the Sacred Heart Academy Advisory Board; member of Sigma Iota Epsilon, Management Honorary Fraternity and Beta Gamma Sigma, National Scholarship Honor Society for the Field of Commerce; former member of the Data Processing Management Association, where he earned a Certificate in Data Processing. He was a former member of the Institute of Internal Auditors, EDP Auditors Association, Springfield Art Association, Roman Cultural Society, Springfield College in Illinois Advisory Board; and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Larry was a current member of The Kirk Christian Church in Dunedin, FL. Larry was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Richardson; and one sister, Mary Jewel Register. He is survived by his wife, Judith Richardson of Clearwater, FL; two daughters, Angelynn Weihmeir of Springfield and Diane (Robert) Gislason of Fort Myers, FL; one step-daughter, Kelly Sullivan of Springfield; five grandchildren, John, Scott, and Natalia Gislason, and Laurelynn and Chip Weihmeir; three step-grandchildren, Olivia Sullivan, Sean O'Hara, and Kyle Valtille; four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Ceremony: will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, with Mike Harney officiating. Visitation: will begin immediately following the Funeral Ceremony until 7:00 p.m. Private family burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
