Ida Ruth Victor
March 7, 1926 – December 27, 2018
Ida Ruth Victor, 92, of Springfield, passed away on December 27, 2018 at Heritage Health Hospice. She was born on March 7, 1926 in Springfield to Selig and Mary Glazer Victor.
Miss Victor is survived by her nephew Steve (Deanna) Levin of Naperville, sister-in-law Rita Victor of Springfield and fourteen nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Fanny C. Levin and Rose Perlmutter and four brothers: Jack, Albert, Sidney and Morris Victor.
Ida worked as an Apprenticeship Training Representative for the U.S. Department of Labor and she was the second woman in the United States to hold that position. She was the President of the National Secretary Association Abraham Lincoln Chapter and the President of SWAG. Ida was the founder of the Land of Lincoln Women’s Golf Tournament and a member of Lincoln Greens Women’s Golf Association and Temple Israel.
After retirement, Ida made many new friends and especially enjoyed her golf games and tournaments. She also enjoyed traveling and spent several months in Israel volunteering to wrap and transport certain medical supplies for the Israel Army...,Always interested in genealogy and history, she found relatives in Israel and upon her return she began a comprehensive family tree. Ida was a loving caregiver to her two sisters even living with them as they experienced poor health. In 2012, Ida moved to an independent living facility, Hickory Glen. She soon became the game maven as she taught MahjJong to many residents there. She also took part in all the other activities even writing the trivia questions for the group. Ida's memory was phenominal as she remembered names, numbers, and facts ! She definitely was a Feminist!!
A funeral service will be held at 11:30am on Thursday January 3, 2019 at the Oak Ridge Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel located just inside and to the East of the main cemetery gate entrance on Monument Avenue.
