

Irene C. Lavin, 82, of Mayfield, Kentucky, formerly of Springfield, died at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2006 at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield, Kentucky. She was born on May 3, 1924 in Springfield, the daughter of Frank A. and Catherine Ryan Dower. She married John J. Lavin, Jr. on June 22, 1946 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Springfield; he preceded her in death in 1982. Mrs. Lavin graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1942 and attended Brown’s Business College in Springfield. She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Holy Family Society of the U.S.A. Irene was a homemaker and was also a former Brownie Troop Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Elizabeth Smith and Mary Smith and one brother: Frank A. Dower, Jr. She is survived by one son: John J. (wife, Renda) Lavin, Jr. of Mayfield, KY; one daughter: Colleen (partner, Shaun) Lavin of San Mateo, CA; two grandchildren; two great-grandsons; four sisters: Peggy (husband, Mike) Freeman, Catherine Harrison, Helen Forgas and Ann (husband, Jim) Clancy all of Springfield; one brother: James Dower also of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield, with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga, V.F. celebrant.
