He was born on February 2, 1944 in Springfield, the son of the late Herschel and Eleanor (Adkins) Cass, Sr. He married Tonia DiProfio on December 15, 1962 In Springfield and she survives.
Mr. Cass was the owner/operator of Grandview IGA. He later owned Waverly Family Foods. He had attended Camdenton United Methodist in Camdenton, MO, and was a member of the Meat Cutters’ Union.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 children, Jackie (husband Mark) Cunningham of Auburn, IL, Anthony (wife Cindy) Cass of Springfield, and Rhonda (husband Kevin) Mackiney of Springfield; 6 grandchildren, Tonia L., Dylan, and Abby Cunningham, Cassie Teubner, Jack B., and Brock Mackiney; 3 siblings, Barbara Sage of Tallula, IL, Jim (wife Marcia) Cass of Springfield, and John (wife Barbara) Cass of Hillsboro, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 siblings, Herschel Cass, Jr., Bill Cass, Don Cass, Donna Wolford, and Betty Brown.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 5 to 7 pm at Chatham Christian Church, 9897 S. Main St., Chatham, IL. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded.
