

Jack was born May 7, 1940, in Springfield, IL, the son of Henry Jacob and Dolores Spencer Kornfeld. He married Maureen Alice Noe on December 4, 1982, in Springfield, IL.
Jack graduated from Cathedral Grade School and attended Feitshans High School, eventually earning his GED. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1965. Jack was employed as a firefighter with the Springfield Fire Department from 1973 until his retirement in 1998. He was stationed the longest with Station 8 and retired from Station 11 as a fire safety inspector and earned the rank of Captain. Jack was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Firefighters Club, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and placed 2nd in the World Horseshoe Tournament in 2011. Jack also enjoyed playing racquetball, fishing and camping as he loved the outdoors, riding bicycles, and cooking, especially his chili.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, David Kornfeld.
Jack is survived by his wife, Maureen “Moe” Kornfeld of Springfield; daughter, Laura (Brad) Colantino of Loami; grandchildren, Angelo, Vincent, Louis, and Alyssa Colantino, all of Loami and Ian Kornfeld of Springfield; great-grandchild, Phoenix Kornfeld; sisters, Jeannie Tomasino of Clearwater, FL and Janie (Chuck) Hutek of Lakeland, FL; and a few nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial: Family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 North Amos Avenue, Springfield, IL. Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Troy Niemerg, celebrant.
Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnel to Towers, American Heart Association, or American Cancer Society.
