Jack William Robinson, 88, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born on September 13, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, to John William and Sarah Christine Myers Robinson. He married Shirley Murphy in 1950, the mother of his nine children, and they later divorced. He then married Zelah Southard in 1980 and she preceded him in death in 1989. He married Carol Turner Greer in Martinsville, IL., on March 30, 1991 and she survives.
Jack is also survived by eight daughters: Sherry (partner Chris Krupp) Kleine, Missouri, Nancy (Doug) Winton, Florida, Candy (Jim) Labovites, Colorado, Sandy (Ed) Becker, Colorado, Susie (partner Justin McNesky) Robinson, Florida, Ginne (Steve) Bailey, Missouri, Jackie (Bruce) Roemer, Florida and Marty (Jeff) Koenegstein, Missouri, one step-daughter Alicia ( partner Andrew Bethard) Greer of Wisconsin, 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Bruce Robinson in 1983, and his sister Maxine Walden.
Mr. Robinson was a US Army veteran serving in World War II. Jack was employed as an actuarial examiner in the insurance industry for 45 years, retiring from the State of Illinois Department of Insurance after 8 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion and Laurel United Methodist Church where he sang in the Chancel Choir along with his loving wife Carol.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday March 12, 2013, at Laurel United Methodist Church, 631 South Grand Avenue West, with Rev. Jerry King officiating and burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4-7 pm Monday at Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 East Allen Street.
