Jack Smith

Jack Smith, 67, of Springfield, passed away at 12:44 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center. Jack was born on April 7, 1949 in Eldorado, IL, the son of Herschel and Frankie Miller Smith. He married Carolyn Beard on November 3, 1995 in Springfield. Jack was a graduate of Eldorado High School and earned a bachelor's degree from SIU. He was employed by UPS for 35 years before retiring in 2004. Jack was a member of the Masonic Lodge #0730 in Eldorado and the Elks Lodge #664 in Fairview Heights. He enjoyed volunteering his time at Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, broadcasting to blind listeners on the radio station, golfing, throwing darts, and going to Cardinals games. He was preceded in death by his son, Ryan Smith; his parents; and one brother, Donnie Smith. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Smith of Springfield; daughter, Kristin Smith of Bloomington; step-sons, Jim Cooper of Hayden, ID and Gary Collier of Springfield, IL; two grandchildren, Zach and Rylee Cooper; and one brother, Jerry (wife, Pam) Smith of Sun City, AZ. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Masonic Rites will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the Funeral Ceremony to follow at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies. A Graveside Ceremony will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to a humane society of the donor's choice.
