

He was born on July 13, 1946, in Springfield, the son of James W. and Mary (Traylor) Bloom. Jim married Sandra Joan Lauduskie on July 22, 1967. She preceded him in death on October 31, 2024.
Jim graduated from Lanphier High School with the class of 1964. He furthered his education at Lincoln Land Community College and later earned his ABS, BA, and MS degrees at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Force and performed as an electronics technician during the Vietnam War. He later worked as the director of Jackson County Health Department, food program manager at Illinois Department of Public Health, and an instructor with State Food Handlers Corporation. Jim enjoyed computers and going fishing. He also loved music and played the guitar in various musical groups in the 60s. Jim was a faithful member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and served on the church council.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Sandra.
Jim is survived by his son, Evan M. Bloom of Springfield; and brother, Gary A. Bloom of Springfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or ALS Association.
Visitation and Funeral Service: Family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. at Butler Funeral Home- Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Service will follow at 12:30 with Rev. Brian Alford officiating.
Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military rites conducted by Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the United States Navy.
